Zona

End of August, I started to have an itchy feeling in the area of my breasts.
That area started also to show tiny red spots that were very painful when touching them.
At first, I didn’t put too much attention to it and put twice a day a healing cream on them.
But it got worse and I didn’t want to get any additional diseases 2 weeks before the surgery.
Thus, on Saturday, 1 September, a Saturday, I went with my daughter to see the doctor on duty.
I was received by Mewis Annelies who after seeing the red spots concluded that I was developing a “Zona”.
She prescribed a medication to get rid of it, but she could not promise that the “Zona” would be gone within 2 weeks.
Out of fear that she would call the hospital and inform them that I have a “Zona”, I didn’t say anything about an approaching surgery.
After my visit at the doctor, my brother came to pick us up and drove to the Pharmacist on duty to get the medication.
As he was driving to the Pharmacy, he asked what the doctor on duty said.
I told him that I was developing a “Zona”.
He started to call me a liar and that I was faking a disease in order to stay out of the hospital.
If you have so much fear for the surgery, pack your bags and fly back to Thailand.
Don’t make me waste my time on a coward like you, he said in an angry tone.
I showed him the documents I got from the doctor on duty, but he pushed them back and said:
"You can tell the doctor that you are going to have surgery and would want to delay it.
The doctor will write everything you want as long as you pay."
I didn’t want to make it worse and simply tried to not listen to his rants.
Surgery was planned in two weeks and I had two choices, having surgery and accept the given circumstances or pack our bags and return to Thailand without surgery.
If I would chose option 2, my aorta could burst any time and everything would be over.
All this trouble would have been for nothing.
I chose for option 1 and see what was going to happen.
Arrived home, I called my friend Karel and asked him if we could go live with him a few days in the worst case.
Samui had already been several times at his place without any problem.
So. that would be no problem.
And I would need to go on September, 16th, to the hospital.
If I could stay with him a few days, it would be great.
But if not, I could go live in a nearby hotel for 2 weeks.
My only worry was to find a place where my daughter could stay in safety.

I need to go to the hospital in Genk for an examination on Thursday.
The surgery is almost certain.
Unfortunately I got a Zona last week and the surgery will almost certainly be postponed until the Zona is healed.
When I told my brother about the Zona, he went completely out of his head and started to yell at me that I was afraid of the operation and making up all sorts of things to delay the operation.
"If you are so afraid of the operation, book a flight back to Thailand and stop playing comedy."
From the beginning I had the feeling that we were not really welcome.
But I will not fly back to Thailand now.
Especially now that I am so close to the operation.
I would like to ask if we can stay with you until the operation is over. |
